Steering mystery works against Dotter at Kentucky.

SPARTA, KY - The People Against Drugs/Puma Tools Racing team and driver Bobby Dotter will remember their trip to the Kentucky Speedway as a weekend they would like to forget. Problems with the steering of Dotter's mount left the team stumped, and Dotter in 27th position when the checkered flag flew.

"We really don't know what it is at this point," Dotter said. "It is just like the steering boxes we had in were skipping or something. Jason (Small, Dotter's Green Light Racing teammate) had the same problem. When we get back to the shop, we will take a look and see if we can't find the problem. But it's odd, because neither of us had any problems at all until after the race started."

Dotter took the green flag from the 24th position, and looked to make up some spots early. Then trouble struck.

"When it first happened, it acted like a wheel bearing or something. We were going to try to stay out and catch a caution, but we were just losing too much ground. We came in and started to diagnose the problem, and it wasn't a wheel bearing or anything else we could see. We changed the steering box, but when we went back out the problem was still there."

"It's a real shame because the team worked hard this week getting everything ready for the race," Dotter continued. "The trucks have run well the last few races and we had another good run going. Its too bad we never had a chance to see just how good it would have been."

Dotter and the People Against Drugs/Puma Tools Racing team return to action this weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway. The New England 200 takes the green at 1 pm ET on Saturday, July 20, and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The race can also be heard on XM Satellite Radio and MRN Radio affiliates nationwide.
