MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 17, 1998) Northstar Motorsports team owners Merideth and Sharon Ruark announced Thursday that veteran driver Jeff Fuller will pilot the No. 89 Heritage Consumer Products car in the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division in 1999. Fuller will be reunited with Northstar Motorsports, for whom he entered eight races during the middle of 1998. The Ruarks also announced that Heritage Consumer Products -- which sponsored the team with its Allerest and Fiberall brands last season in a partial program -- would step its commitment up to a full-season sponsorship for 1999. The Ruarks have also reorganized the team in an effort designed to increase its performance from last season. The team will switch to Chevrolet Monte Carlos for 1999 from Ford Tauruses and will use engines from the 1995-1997 engine builders of the year, Katech. The Ruarks have also named Leon Fox -- formerly a partner of Derrike Cope in Foxco Racing -- as general manager and crew chief. "We are very pleased to have Heritage Consumer Products with us for a full season in 1999," the Ruarks said. "We feel we have made the needed changes to become a top-10 team. With Jeff Fuller and Leon Fox, along with Chevrolet and Katech, we are looking forward to an exciting season of racing. We have all the faith in the world in Leon and Jeff and believe their pairing completes the package." The pairing of Fox and Fuller began at Homestead last month with Fox serving as crew chief for Fuller in a car Fuller built on his own for the season-ending Jiffy Lube Miami 300, and in which he finished on the lead lap. Fuller, the 1995 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year, expressed his excitement on the new season. "I really am excited about the changes Meredith and Sharon have made for this team," Fuller said. "I believe we will be able to race competitively on a weekly basis in 1999. Leon and I really hit things off with our effort in Homestead and I can't wait for us to get to Daytona." The Northstar Motorsports team will be busy for the next two months completing the change to Chevrolets. The NASCAR Busch Series season takes the green flag on Feb. 13 with the NAPA Auto Parts 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
