Allentown, Pa--Injured Busch Series driver Jeff Purvis is still listed in serious but stable condition after a series of CT scans and MRIs on Monday. Purvis suffered a contusion to the base of his brain along with a fracture of the first and second vertebrae.
Purvis is in the Lehigh Valley Hospital's Trauma Neuro Intensive Care Unit hooked up to a ventilator to assist his breathing. He is however, responding to doctor's commands with hand squeezes and movement of his extremities.
The Brewco Motorsports driver, Purvis was hurt in Sunday's Stacker 2 200 in Nazareth when on lap 168 Purvis lost an engine. After laying oil down in turn one, Purvis' No. 37 car came to a stop on the track. Greg Biffle's No. 60 slipped through the oil and slammed Purvis' car.
Biffle was unconscious for a short while and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for a CT scan. He was released Sunday night after tests came back negative.
Purvis' car owner Clarence Brewer Jr. has yet to make a decision regarding the No. 37 car for this weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte.
At the hospital's request, calls and flowers will be withheld since they are not allowed in the ICU.
Cards and notes are accepted and may be sent to Jeff Purvis at:
