Canadian weekly notebook - Martin Roy’s race ends rudely at Talledega

The Canadian qualified his King Autosport Camaro in 36th place. Roy finished the first segment in 20th place. Sylvain Laporte wins SPC race at ICAR

The 2017 season of the Super Production Challenge (SPC) series, presented by BFGoodrich Tires Canada began Sunday at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Québec. Laporte and Jacques Gravel claimed top overall honours, while Yves Legris and Gabriel Lacombe earned the victories in Compact Class.

Despite the rain and the strong winds, two great races were staged on the short version of the road course. Sylvain Laporte (MINI Cooper Challenge) won the first, 30-minute race, winning from Sébastien Lamontagne (Acura RSX Type S). In Compact Class, veteran Yves Legris (Toyota Echo Hatchback) took the victory.

Race 2 of the meeting was one hour in duration, broken down into two segments. At the end of the first segment, Jacques Gravel won ahead of Sébastien Lamontagne. Thirty minutes later, Sylvain Laporte won the second round. Gabriel Lacombe captured victory in the Compact category.

Tough race for team MIA in Austin

Montréal’s Motorsports In Action (MIA) team experienced a difficult weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas in the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge. Mechanical issues side-lined the McLaren 570S GT4 of Quebeckers’ Chris Green and Jesse Lazare before even starting the race while the team’s other car, Ontarian Kenny Wilden and American Dr. Rod Randall, finished tenth. The team detected an oil leak on the pre-grid, followed by a small fire that was quickly contained. This forced the team to retire the Green/Lazare car before the start of the race.

Valérie Chiasson races Porsche Cup at Spa-Francorchamps

Valérie Chiasson launched her Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux series debut this weekend at the prestigious Belgian track of Spa-Francorchamps. The Canadian qualified in sixteenth before having to retire two laps from the finish of the race, following a contact with another competitor. The hit caused her to lose three places and with a damaged car, she was forced to retire with two laps to go.
