Erik Jones victorious at the Monster Mile

A caution with 11 of 120 laps left in the main event erased Jones’ big lead and mixed up the lineup as several drivers tried varied pit strategies.

Jones got a good jump on Wallace on the restart and Alex Bowman’s four-tire pit strategy came up a little short and he drove from sixth to third in the final five laps.

Justin Allgaier finished fourth and Ty Dillon was fifth.

The win is Jones’ second in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season and the second time he has claimed the Dash4Cash program bonus.

“At first I couldn’t see how many came to pit road (on the last caution). I was a little anxious to see how many came down and how many stayed out. Fortunately, enough stayed out that allowed us to get the win today,” said Jones.

“Thanks to Darrell Wallace for the push on the last restart. That was key to getting us back out front. It was just an awesome day. I wasn’t too sure how things would go after the heat race, but it turned out to be alright.”

Bowman drove the No. 88 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. It was his first series race in more than seven months. He has been without a regular ride this season.

“We made some big changes from the heat race and I think we were definitely the strongest long-run cars in the race,” Bowman said. “We definitely didn’t have the short-run speed.

“When it came to the last caution, we thought we could run second or try to win the race, so we came in and took four tires to try to get the win.”

Elliott Sadler, who finished sixth, leads the series standings by three of Daniel Suarez, who finished ninth.

Heat 2

Dillon got around Suarez on a restart with five of 40 laps remaining to win the second heat race as the two drivers claimed the final positions of the four drivers eligible for the $100,000 Dash4Cash bonus in the 120-lap main event.

Sadler grabbed the lead on Lap 1 but was black-flagged when his No. 1 Chevrolet beat Suarez to the line. While pitting to serve his penalty, Sadler was also busted for speeding on pit road, leaving him three laps down in the heat.

Ryan Sieg finished third, Matt Tifft was fourth and Brandon Jones was fifth.

Justin Marks wrecked on the frontstretch during the heat race and damaged his car to the point he would be unable to compete in the main event.

Heat 1

In what was easily the most interesting Dash4Cash heat race in the three events, Allgaier and Jones waged a wild race for the lead for virtually the entire 40-lap distance.

The two traded the lead three time and Allgaier had to hold off a wild charge from Jones to win the heat. The two drivers became two of the four drivers eligible for the $100,000 Dash4Cash bonus in the 120-lap main event.

Bowman finished third, Joey Logano was fourth and Paul Menard was fifth.

“The track is changing a lot. Now we just need to go out and do it for another 120 laps,” Allgaier said after the race. “Hopefully, we’ll have some fun.”
