Justin Marks leads James Davison in Road America practice

Marks, who is competing full-time in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, posted the fastest average lap speed (109.603 mph) in Friday’s final practice in preparation for Saturday’s Johnsonville 180.

Only two drivers – Tyler Reddick and Conor Daly – went out in the first practice since it was raining heavily.

“The car is fine. We really stuck with the same package we had here last year and just made some tweaks,” said Marks, who is driving Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 42 Chevrolet and will also compete in the Xfinity race on the Charlotte Roval in September.

“I didn’t want to change much because we were really good here last year. Real happy with this Chip Ganassi Racing team and our No. 42 Chevrolet Accessories Chevrolet.

“Just doing what we came here to do.”

James Davison, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, ended up second-fastest (109.178 mph) and Austin Cindric was third (109.147 mph). Justin Allgaier and Matt Tifft completed the top-five.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Cole Custer, Andy Lally, Elliott Sadler, Daniel Hemric and Christopher Bell.
