NASCAR's Chevrolet Camaro to have a new look for 2017

When the Bow-tie Brigade takes on the Xfinity Series in 2017, the iconic muscle car will have a new look.

The Gen 6 Camaro, which was unveiled on May 16, 2015 at the Raceway at Belle Isle during the IndyCar Duels in Detroit, were available in the showrooms last fall.

Chevrolet has campaigned the Camaro in the category since July of 2012 when the sanctioning body turned to Detroit to upgrade its second series and present a closer symbiotic relationship between the showroom and the race track. Since its full-time debut for the 2013 season, the changes to the front fascia mark the first time they styling has been altered other than modifications assigned by the sanctioning body.

Chevrolet has been developing the Gen 6 Camaro for the last two years with Richard Childress Racing. The final submission to NASCAR will be Sept. 1.

“Any time you introduce a new part in whatever series you’re in, you hope that by doing so the new parts offer you some enhanced performance,” said Chevy’s director of racing Mark Kent. “But I think we’re going to have to wait until Daytona next year when this car debuts to see if that’s actually the case.”
Kent would not expound on what model would replace the Chevy SS in the Sprint Cup Series or when that might be.

“We have something we’re working on,” Kent added. “When the time is right, we’ll get everyone back together and we’ll show you what we’re working on.”
