Piquet's last NASCAR start came in the Sprint Cup Series in the 2014 Watkins Glen race, where he finished 26th.
This will be his first NXS appearance since November, 2013 at Homestead. During his 37-race tenure in NASCAR's secondary division, he scored one victory at the Road America road course in 2012. The former Formula 1 driver also has two wins at the Truck level and was the first Brazilian to ever win on the national NASCAR tour.
"I’m absolutely thrilled to be racing in Mid-Ohio next month," said Piquet. "NASCAR has been a huge part of my career and it is one of the best championships I’ve ever raced in. My first top tier NASCAR victory was at a road course, at Road America, and so I’m grateful to Biagi-DenBeste for giving me another road course opportunity. The Xfinity series is seriously competitive so I’m looking forward to getting there and seeing what we can do."
Since his most recent NASCAR appearance, he became the first ever FIA Formula E champion, won a Global Rallycross race and competed in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Rebellion LMP1 privateer team. He also dabbled in Indy Lights last year with Carlin.
The team he joins for Mid-Ohio recently took the checkered flag at Daytona with Aric Almirola at the wheel.
