Jeff Anton Finishes Busch East Series Season With Top Ten

Lime Rock, Conn (Sept. 30, 2006) - Jeff Anton finished both the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch East Series' last race of the season and the overall points standings in the top ten. Anton, from Russell, Massachusetts, finished tenth in the season finale at Lime Rock Park, cementing his ninth-place points standing in his No. 30 Engineered Floors, Inc. Chevrolet.

Anton, who comes from a road racing background, was looking forward to the 1.53-mile track after racing on ovals all season. But after only three laps of practice his car was done with a failure in the rear axle. A replacement had to be brought to the track from the team's headquarters, causing Anton to miss the balance of practice as well as the qualifying session.

Starting the race from the rear of the field in a car that hadn't been fully sorted, Anton was facing an uphill battle. He was strong early, breaking into the top twenty after just a few laps. But the car needed adjusting, and this brought him to pit road under caution on lap 16.

After the restart, Anton was again on the charge. But more changes were needed.

"The car did not want to go around the turns at all," he explained. "Especially in the left-hander, I knew I was picking up the left front tire and the second I got on the throttle the rear end was wanting to come around, it was a handful and it was like that on just about every single turn."

Anton was back on pit road on lap 32 for more adjustments, restarting eighteenth. Despite the handling still not being quite right, he continued making up positions, going all the way to tenth, then ninth, and finally back to tenth at the checkers.

"For three laps of practice, we had no idea what to expect, and we had a handful out there," he said. "We tried to do exactly what we'd been doing all season, which is stay out of trouble and get a decent finish, ride around and then push it near the end.

"It wasn't much fun, but overall we had a good time," Anton continued. "Everyone from Engineered Floors was here so it was good to start in the back and finish near the front. They got to see all the hard work we've been doing. Last year we would have been doing back flips with a tenth place finish, but this year we're a little disappointed. It shows where we're going as a team."

Work continues in the Anton Racing shop as a car will be prepared for Anton's second appearance in the Toyota NASCAR All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California. That race goes green in front of a live SpeedTV television audience on Saturday night, October 21st.
