Ryan Seaman Keeps His Nose Clean, Gets Top-10 At New Hampshire
Busch East Series Driver Set For Go At Dover High Banks Next
TOMS RIVER, NJ (September 18, 2006) -- The calendar might show that Christmas is in December, but for Ryan Seaman, the holiday feels like it falls in late September instead.
Seaman, whose family-owned #06 team only runs a limited schedule in the NASCAR Busch East Series due to a tight budget, looks forward to this time of year because that is when races at two of his favorite tracks -- New Hampshire International Speedway and Dover Downs International Speedway - are on back-to-back weekend.
This past Saturday, Seaman competed at NHIS. Despite qualifying getting rained out, having the starting field set by owner points and starting back in the 29th position, Seaman able to work his way to a sixth-place finish. Even more impressive was the fact that Seaman accomplished this in only 31 green flag laps in the incident-plagued race. The race only ran 104 out of its 125-scheduled laps due to time constraints.
"We really had a good racecar," said Seaman. "It was a shame that we had so many caution and that we had to cut the race short. We battled through, came up to 29th. We pitted and fell back to 40th or so. Then we came back to finish sixth. It wasn't that bad of a day.
"We started in the back and we got in our window to pit when we were going one to go on a caution. So we came in and got back out on the racetrack as they were going green. We caught up to the field and another caution came out. We only picked up two spots there, so we came in to make another adjustment."
The most enjoyable part of the day for a racer like Seaman was the opportunity to make plenty of passes on the racetrack.
"That was fun [passing cars]. I got to run with a lot of different people today and even gained a little bit of respect for some guys who I had no respect for at all. It was a good day. We really had something for them and I hated to see all of those cautions, but I can't really complain. I wasn't in any of them and I only have one doughnut on the side of the car. That isn't even a full doughnut either. That's good considering what some of these cars look like."
Next up for Seaman is Friday's Busch East event at Dover. It's one that he is more than ready for.
"We're going to Dover next week and I'm looking forward to it. I've been waiting for this race all season long. We're coming out of here not having to do any bodywork but to change a sticker. We're ready to go."
Seaman has had some of the best runs of his career on the one-mile Dover concrete track. Last year, he qualified third and finished a career best fourth there. In 2004, it was the site of his first career top 10 finish. For some reason, Seaman just seems to mesh with the track.
"I don't know what it is," said Seaman. "I like the speedways. It's a shame that we don't run more speedways like that. Dover is a place where you can really go and race. It brings the talent out and those kind of racetracks are what makes the good drivers stand out. It's where all of the Cup guys are and that track really showcases our series."
