Dale Quarterley finally grabbed one and didn't let go. The third career Busch North Series victory for the former motorcycle champion should have been at least his sixth. He dominated at Watkins Glen the past two years and at Dover in 2001, only to see victory slip away in the closing laps. He was fast enough to win at Dover in '02 as well, but fell two laps down early and could only make one of them up.
In his past wins, at Beech Ridge and Lime Rock in '01, as well as his hard-luck losses, Quarterley has been the center of attention. Uncharacteristically, he was almost unnoticed at Adirondack until he arrived in the top five, then slashed past the four drivers in front of him- a quartet of tough customers named Olsen, Ryan Moore, Santerre, and Truex- in a matter of 20 laps.
Two of the last six races of 2003 are at tracks Quarterley considers his best, Dover and Lime Rock. Should he win both, or pull the NHIS-Lime Rock double, he will achieve the triple crown he barely missed in 2001 by winning at a short track, a superspeedway, and a road course in the same season.

Andy Santerre's first top ten since July allowed him to stretch his point lead to 88 over Mike Stefanik. Quarterley was the big winner in the point race, gaining two spots from sixth to fourth, while Mike Johnson skidded from fourth to eighth. Second through tenth remain covered by 143 points.
There was no change in the Busch North Series' version of the wild card playoff race, the battle for the 15th and final guaranteed invitation to the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, November 6-8. Carey Heath finished 19th at Adirondack to Mark Durgin's 22nd, leaving Heath with a 23 point margin.

Adirondack International Speedway enjoyed another huge turnout of fans for the second annual appearance of the Busch North Series, which took place in perfect weather after heavy rain in the morning. Hundreds of fans took advantage of the on-track autograph session which preceded driver introductions, many using the mini-poster of the Busch North drivers included with their souvenir program.

A leftover note from Watkins Glen: Rick Bell's second place finish was the best for a Pontiac in Busch North Series competition since Kelly Moore's runner-up at NHIS in July 2000. Moore also scored the last victory for the Tin Indian brand at Thompson in 1999.
While on the subject, the last Oldsmobile win was scored by Kip Stockwell at Thunder Road in 1997, and the last Buick victory by Stub Fadden at Lee USA Speedway in 1994. There is a no record of a Dodge win, but Ralph Nason won at Unity (Me.) Raceway in 1987 driving a Plymouth.

Milestones... Matt Kobyluck's fifth place at Adirondack was his first top-ten since Thompson in July and Paul Wolfe's sixth was his first top-ten since Stafford in May... Mike Olsen has finished in the top ten seven of the last eight races, with the exception being an 11th... Mike Gallo's 11th was his best of the season... Carey Heath made her 50th Busch North Series start in the Dealmaker 150...The last two race winners have also won the award for position improvement, a series first. That award is now known as the PowerAde Power Move of the Race and carries a $1,000 weekly award. In previous years, it was the Flowmaster Star of the Race, and offered only a post-season monetary reward.
