Bagwell gets NASCAR nod for Busch North Series
As a starting point for a future move to the NASCAR Busch Series, Herbie Bagwell, Jr., received NASCAR approval this week to drive in the 2003 NASCAR Busch North Series. Bagwell, an African-American driver with 14 years experience racing in the northeast, is looking to make his debut in the series by as early as late June.
"We are looking for a team to supply race cars, equipment and crew for the 10 races we plan to run," said Bagwell when discussing this great opportunity. "I'm ready to race and I've had great success on some of the same tracks at which the NASCAR Busch Series races. I appreciate NASCAR's consideration in granting me driving privileges and hope to demonstrate my skills at a sufficient level to allow me to move to the Busch Series next year and race nationally."
While the search for a BNS team progresses, Hawk Motorsports is also seeking sponsorship to underwrite the costs. The team had a major primary sponsor proposal working not long ago but it got lost in the corporate structure. "As far as I know the deal is dead," said Bagwell "But our contact said they might be looking at it again at some point. That's the way it goes in this business, I guess. We do have some dialogue going with a possible associate sponsor and a product endorsement deal, so if that comes through, we at least have a start," he added.
