Dale Quarterley eleventh at Beech Ridge make-Up race after starting twenty-third.

Westfield, Massachusetts' Dale Quarterley, driver of the No. 32 Land O Lakes Chevrolet on the NASCAR Busch North Series, made up twelve positions between the start and finish of the Irving Oil 150, the second of two series races at the one-third mile Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.

After qualifying twenty-third in a light rain on August 24th, the racing program was postponed to September 7th after the rain continued and washed out the balance of the program. The starting field was locked, so Quarterley held that starting position in the rescheduled race.

"The track was wet and we didn't scuff the tires in practice," he said after qualifying. "Between that and it being cool all day, there wasn't anything to get a hold of out there. Guys just kept getting quicker as the track dried off and more cars went out there. Except for qualifying out in the back, which gives you a bigger chance of getting in trouble, I don't see it as any huge deal. I think we had a decent car at the end of practice.

"The hardest part about qualifying in the back is that the leaders are coming like gangbusters way faster than you can get through traffic," Quarterley continued. "The hard part is going to be staying on the lead lap."

Quarterley was quickly up to fifteenth in the race's opening laps, and was thirteenth at the one-thirds distance mark. He stayed on the lead lap through the long green flag run that ended on lap 93 with a caution. Entering the pits twelfth, he returned to the track in ninth. When the race returned to green, he ran in ninth until getting mixed up in lapped traffic inside ten laps to go. He fell to eleventh, where he finished.

"We made some changes from where we were last time for practice and after qualifying," he said after the race. "We made some changes to the thing knowing that it wasn't going to be that fast when we came back. The changes definitely helped, but we either didn't go far enough or I'm missing one little piece in the puzzle. It started going away a little, and in the midst of hanging on trying to score some points and getting where we didn't get crashed out of the things, I got tangled up between the lapped guys and everybody who was right there. Everybody was jockeying around and I got shuffled back and ended up eleventh. That was just over the last seven laps, if it wasn't for that last little thing, we could have ended up eighth. Starting twenty fourth and ending up eleventh was cool, but starting twenty fourth and ending up eighth would have been great. Points wise, it's not a bad day. We made up points on Kelly Moore, and we took some points out of Dale Shaw's gap."

Quarterley now looks forward to returning to Loudon, New Hampshire for the running of the New Hampshire 125, a race that shares the weekend with the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series and the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
