Mechanical woes equate to worst finish of the year for Moore.

Even though Kelly Moore is posted as 24th on the final scorecard, it was quite evident to all the competitors that if Moore hadn't suffered through a lap one pit stop to fix a chassis problem, he may have won his third race of the season and first at Beech Ridge since 1995. During the mid-point of the race, Moore was turning laps 2/10 of a second faster then the race leaders, and not once during the evening did anyone pass the Scarborough, ME native.

"It was just an unfortunate thing, to have something like that happen is really disappointing," said Moore. "We practiced really well, made some adjustments during the break and just a mental error on our team's part. We really had an awesome race car; we just didn't get the prize."

The racing grid was set during the original race date in August, where Moore posted the eighth fastest time overall. It took Moore less than a lap to realize something was drastically wrong with the race car, and he ended up loosing control of the car on the first lap. He then headed to the pits to have his crew examine the car. What they found was the sway bar was not hooked up. The crew went to work to make the repairs, but in the process lost six laps.

Moore and his team have struggled at their home track the past few seasons, and with a lot of hard work by the team; they knew they had stumbled across a good setup in practice. "We've tried so many different combinations here in the past, but nothing has worked during the race," said Moore. "We used a bit of what we learned at Adirondack and applied some other combinations and it seemed to click."

Unfortunately, this was the final race of the season at Beech Ridge, so Moore will have to wait until next year to try the same combination and hopefully earn his second victory at the Scarborough, ME oval.

The NAPA Team slid down one spot in the season point standings, but with just four races left in the 2002, the championship hunt is still on.

Next weekend the Busch North Series will return to the 1.058 mile New Hampshire International Speedway for a 125-lap event. Moore is always one of the toughest to beat, not only during the race but in the qualifying sessions. This will be an excellent tune up for the fast tracks, a visit to the high banked Dover Downs International Speedway is only a few weeks away.
