Rain postpones Busch North Series Irving Oil 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway until Saturday, September 7; Martin Truex Jr. wins sixth Bud Pole of 2002 season.

SCARBOROUGH, Me.-- A light but persistent rain forced Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring officials to postpone Saturday night's scheduled Irving Oil 150 until Saturday night, September 7. The 28-car starting lineup was set before the rain arrived and will remain in effect when the race is run in two weeks. Gates will open at 3 p.m. on September 7, with practice at 5 p.m. and race time at 7 p.m.

Martin Truex Jr. won his series-leading sixth Bud Pole Award of 2002 by lapping the one-third mile oval in 15.599 seconds, an average speed of 76.928 miles per hour. That was well short of the track record set in June by Brian Hoar. In the redraw for starting positions among the top six qualifiers, Truex pulled the number four spot. Brad Leighton, the second fastest qualifier and current runner-up in the standings, drew the pole and will be joined on the front row by defending Busch North Series champion Mike Olsen. Mike Rowe will share the second row with Truex, with Dennis Demers and Andy Santerre in row three.

Current point leader Matt Kobyluck qualified 15th, one spot behind Mike Johnson, the winner of this spring's PTM Racing 150 at Beech Ridge. The winner of this race last year, Dale Quarterley, will take the green flag 25th.

Kobyluck carries a six point lead over Leighton and 48 points over Santerre into the next event on the Busch North Series schedule, the True Value 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont next Saturday night, August 31.
