HOLLAND, NY - Driving a loose racecar can make for a long evening as Paul Wolfe and the Tops Friendly Markets Racing Team found out here during the Sunoco 150 NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series race Saturday, June 28 at Holland International Speedway.
Racing in his primary sponsor's home territory in his home state, Wolfe qualified the Tommy Baldwin Racing-owned Dodge 9th out of a field of 23 cars (14.779 seconds), but he could not advance any further in the race due to the racecar's extreme looseness.
In an attempt to tighten up the Tops Dodge, the team pitted on lap 62 and took a spring rubber out of the right rear and put in some wedge. However, the changes were not enough.
"It was a struggle out there tonight," Wolfe said. "We were hoping for a better run in front of our sponsors, but the Tops Dodge would not come off the turns well. I guess we figured the track would tighten up a lot more than it did during the race. After some of the bad luck we have been having lately, we will take a 12th place finish though. We are looking forward to getting our season turned around and getting back in the top ten points chase."
Wolfe remains in 15th place in the Busch North Series' points standings after six races. Joey McCarthy took the checkered flag for his first career Busch North Series win. Kelly Moore, Matt Kobyluck, Mike Olsen and Tim Andrews rounded out the top five.
The Sunoco 150 was taped to air on television by SPEED Channel (Adelphia Digital Cable Channel 122, Time Warner Digital Cable Channel 103) on Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m. Wolfe and the team have a week off before heading to Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut Saturday, July 12 for the Pepsi 150.
Tops Markets, LLC is one of six retail operating companies under Ahold USA, one of the leading supermarket operations in the U.S. Tops currently operates 159 Tops Friendly Markets and 204 convenience stores in New York, Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio. The Tops Racing Team's associate sponsors for the Holland race were Georgia Pacific, Brawny, Dixie and Colton RV.
The No. 9 Tops Dodge is operated by Tommy Baldwin Racing North (TBRN), a subsidiary of Tommy Baldwin Racing. TBRN is co-owned by NASCAR veterans Tommy Baldwin and Eddie D'Hondt.
