Ryan Seaman Improves From Seventeenth To Eleventh At Holland

(Holland, N.Y. - June 25, 2005) - Ryan Seaman and the Erbe Carting-sponsored ERS Motorsports team put in a long day's work well into a hot June evening in western New York as they worked to get their NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series effort up to speed at Holland International Speedway. Their work paid off with an eleventh place finish after starting the race back in seventeenth.

Seaman, the 2004 Busch North Series Rookie of the Year, posted the tenth best practice lap in the first session, but was seventeenth in the second session. For time trials, adjustments were made to the car but they didn't help the result, that being seventeenth again.

"We weren't too bad in practice, we got the thing freed up finally and went halfway decent, but in time trials it was way too tight," he said. "We'll try to free it up for the race. We can't afford to wait around once the green drops, we've got to get going in a hurry. We have to make sure we don't go a lap down, and we're starting pretty far back."

Running fourteenth, Seaman was in danger of going a lap down during the first long green-flag run of the race, but was saved by a lap 86 caution, locking him in as one of only twelve cars still on the lead lap. From that point, he was free to race into the top ten, breaking into it a couple times but late in the race, lapped traffic forced an error that kept him from his first top ten finish of the year.

"I probably could have had that one more spot to put us in the top ten but I tagged the wall twice near the end," he explained. "I got hung up by a lapped car and tried to go around him on the outside and hit the fence, and after that I wound up hitting the fence again. That's how Sean Caisse got me for tenth right at the end."

Other than missing the top ten, Seaman was pleased with how the team worked throughout the day.

"It was a big turnaround for us. We went from extremely tight in qualifying to extremely loose in the race. We worked our butts off in the race and passed a lot of cars. Lapped cars were just tough today, some were letting you go high and others wanted you low, and it was tough to get in any sort of a rhythm around them. I went three-wide with two lapped cars once, and there's no reason for that.

"We're happy with eleventh," Seaman continued. "We're happy with eleventh and the car's not all torn up, so we'll clean it up and go to Lake Erie, where we had a good finish last year. We keep getting closer to the top five with each race and that's where we want to be. I want to get my first top ten a lot earlier than we did last year [his first top ten came in the season's last race], and then go on from there."
