LEE, N.H. (April 22, 2001) - Tracy Gordon of Strong, Me., made a clean sweep of the 2001 Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring season opener, the Autotown 150 at Lee USA Speedway. Gordon won the Bud Pole in time trials, retained the top spot in the redraw among the top qualifiers, and led all 150 laps. It was the eleventh race win and the ninth Bud Pole of his career. A capacity crowd watched the series' 15th season opener on a summerlike Sunday afternoon..

Mike Johnson worked his way from seventh on the grid to grab second at the 95 lap mark and challenged Gordon on a pair of late race restarts, but was unable to grab the lead. In the final laps, Johnson found Mike Olsen charging to the front after a late pit stop for tires. Johnson held off Olsen by inches for the runner-up spot.

Martin Truex Jr., who also benefited from fresh tires, finished fourth, with Kelly Moore fifth, ahead of Bill Penfold and Jamie Aube. Eddie McDonald was eighth in his first Busch North Series race and won the Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Race Award. Dave Dion and Dale Shaw completed the top ten, one lap down.

By virtue of his race-long leadership, Gordon captured the Gatorade Front Runner Award, and Bryan Wall's 14-position improvement from start to finish earned him the Flowmaster Star of the Race Award.

Gordon's Bud Pole run was timed at 15.531 seconds for a speed of 86.923 miles per hour. For the 150-lap feature distance, he averaged 60.02 miles per hour as four caution periods slowed the action for 31 laps.

The Busch North Series season continues with the CVS Pharmacy 125 presented by Bayer at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, N.H., on Saturday, May 12.
