Lakeville, CT -- The Busch North Series finished up their 2003 series with an exciting race at the 1.53-mile road course known as Lime Rock Park. Kelly Moore entered the race with an opportunity to secure second place overall in the 2003 point standings and was well on his way to reaching that goal until being spun out with less then ten laps to go. The spin pinned Moore's NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo on a set of tire barriers, requiring safety workers an extended period of time to free the damaged car. Moore lost two laps to the field, and more importantly, a shot at a top-5 finish and the ultimate prize, second overall in the point standings. Moore finished the race 19th.

"The 40 car caught me entering turn one, raced me pretty hard and decided to make a banzai move," said a furious Moore. "He has no respect for his competitors and obviously was angry at spinning out earlier in the race."

It's unfortunate that events such as this occur on a near weekly basis in the Busch North Series. Teams pour their heart and soul, never mind countless hours of preparation to compete on this series and to show utter disrespect on the track for your fellow competitors is disheartening to not only the Moore Racing team, but several other drivers that have clashed with Matt Kobyluck on the track.

While race officials took note of the rough driving incident, is their stop and go penalty to Kobyluck under caution a worthy call? What impact did that have in the final outcome to the aggressor?

"I'm not going to question the race officials and their judgment in the press, it is our responsibility as race car drivers to deal with them in a setting conducive to improving the competition on this series," said Moore. "That is behind closed doors and in a setting where we can get these issues solved."

Moore undoubtedly had one of his best road course cars under him on Saturday afternoon, and he played the strategy to the fullest by earning five bonus points when the opportunity presented itself.

"Some teams pitted fairly early in the event, and that worked right into our game plan," Moore said. "We decided that we needed to accumulate all the points we could and that we'd lead a lap, even if it was under caution, to get the bonus points."

Moore pitted and worked his way back up into the top-5 and seemed to be destined for a top-5 finish before being spun out.

"There are only a few places to pass at Lime Rock, it takes a lot of patience, obviously the 40 car didn't have any and he worked a bunch of us over to get to the front," said Moore. "Kobyluck has cost me a lot of positions on the track this year, but this last mistake cost us three spots in the final point standings, obviously that is a huge disappointment."

The racing season is not over for the Moore Racing teams as they will head to California to race in the Inaugural NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown Irwindale Speedway. The race will be televised live on NASCAR TV on SPEED Channel, beginning at 8:00 pm on November 8.

Moore Racing would like to thank all those that have supported our racing program this past year. In addition to our many race fans, we'd also like to thank NAPA Auto Parts, especially the Maine, New Hampshire and Boston Regional Ad council programs, Bill Dodge Auto Parts Group, Maine Lubrication Services, Marty's USRV and Shell Rotella T. Thanks and we truly appreciate your support!
