EBay Auction to Raise Money for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute
LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 16, 2004) - Although he has never visited victory lane at New Hampshire International Speedway, Paul Wolfe, who will start fourth (30.792 seconds, 123.694 MPH) for Saturday's NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series race, has had a great deal of success at the 1.058-mile oval in his NASCAR career.
In eight starts at The Magic Mile in the Busch North Series, Wolfe has three top-5s and five top-10 finishes. He has finished outside of the top-15 only twice, once due to an engine failure and once due to an accident. In his last Busch North NHIS race in September 2003, Wolfe qualified for the outside pole and led the first 96 laps en route to a solid third place finish. In July 2004, Wolfe turned in a career-best 12th place finish in the NASCAR Busch Series at NHIS.
"New Hampshire is a track I am very comfortable with," Wolfe said. "If we can stay out of trouble and finish the race, we will have a good chance to challenge for the win.
After qualifying fourth, Wolfe thinks he has a car that will get the job done on Saturday.
"We were the first car out for qualifying," the 27-year-old Central New York native said. "I wasn't sure what the track was going to be like, so I ran more of a controlled lap than I wanted to. We should be even faster in the race."
Wolfe will drive the No. 19 Racing for a Cure Chevrolet. NHIS is the third race of the season for the Racing for a Cure Program, an initiative designed to raise money for cancer awareness and research at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. It is supported by Western New York-area sponsors the Salhen Packing Company, Wegmans Food Markets and the West Herr Automotive Group.
One of the fundraisers the Racing for a Cure program has implemented is an online auction of autographed collectables that were donated by NASCAR teams. Fans can click on the links on www.paulwolfe.net to bid on the EBay auction items. The items include an actual Dodge racecar hood courtesy of Evernham Motorsports (featuring the signatures of Kasey Kahne, Jeremy Mayfield and Ray Evernham), a Busch North Series Champions Package and a signed hat and autograph card from Paul Wolfe.
The green flag drops for the Sylvania 125 this coming Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST. The race will be shown live on HDNet and will be rebroadcast on Speed Channel on Nov. 20 at noon.
