A Big Race for a Young Moore

Loudon, NH - An all-weekend event was very successful for both Moore Racing teams. They left early in the week to head for the New Hampshire International Speedway's "Magic Mile", as festivities began early Thursday.

"It's always really exciting to be here," said Ryan Moore, "I'm really fortunate to have Castleberry and Snow's on board with us again and have all the support of our full time sponsors."

Practice sessions began Thursday, where Moore ran about sixteenth fastest. After a few adjustments, Moore was able to qualify his Castleberry-Snow's/Market Basket Chevrolet in the eighth starting spot, just two positions behind his father's number 47 NAPA Auto Parts Of Maine Chevrolet.

"Qualifying on this track is always a challenge," said the younger Moore, "but we were satisfied with our starting spot."

After struggling somewhat in practice and qualifying, Moore's team received some outside help that definitely changed the performance of the car. Moore would like to give a special thanks to Dale Earnhardt, Inc. members Mike Greci, Richie Gilmore, and Gene Haskett who gave the Moore Racing team a helping hand on the set-up of the race car. Moore also was running a new DEI engine for the Siemens 125-lap event.

Early Saturday morning, the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series had a third and final practice session. The help of DEI had definitely improved the Castleberry-Snow's Chevrolet and Moore ran about third fastest. "I felt like we had a great car heading into the race, the team had worked so hard all weekend and I was really hoping to put on a good show for all of the sponsors, my team, and all the fans."

Moore's car really had the power he was looking for when the green flag waved. By lap three, he had moved up to sixth. On lap 28, the caution was thrown and the Moore Racing Team took the opportunity to pit for tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment.

Moore continued to work his way up through the field and on lap 54 he had made it up to third, with his father Kelly Moore in the lead. On lap 65, young Moore passed the number 45 car for second and began setting his sights on taking the lead from his dad.

"It's always exciting to race side by side with my dad, and I didn't treat him different than any other driver that I may have been challenging for the lead," he said.

On lap 81 Moore got underneath his father and fought for the number one spot. "I wasn't ready to settle for second," said the elder Moore, "and we raced pretty hard for about three laps until we both began to really tighten up."

On lap 106 Dale Quarterly passed the father-son duo and Kelly Moore followed Quarterly, pushing Ryan back to third. On lap 113, an accident on the track resulted in a red flag, which would leave only five laps remaining in the race. With Kelly in second and Ryan in third, it was going to be a mad dash to the finish. When the race resumed, the 47 car did not want to restart and Kelly Moore had to radio to his crew chief to have his son give him a push.

With only five laps remaining, the field took the green and Ryan Moore did all he could to stay in the top five. His car had become extremely tight and he was happy to be able to bring home a fifth place finish.

"It was a really great weekend overall," said Ryan, "we were lucky to have Castleberry-Snow's on board with us and I was just glad the Moore Racing Team could put on a good show for everyone here today."

The Siemens 125 will be broadcast September 4th at noon on the Speed Channel. Moore will head to Adirondack International Speedway in New York next weekend.
