Radford, VA -- Off and on rain showers threatened the long trip from New England for the Moore Racing team this past Saturday. Moore's R.C. Moore Transportation/Bill Dodge Autogroup/GetEtched.com Chevrolet was decent throughout the scheduled two hour practice session and only needed minor adjustments. The hot, humid weather made for a long afternoon with time trials scheduled for 4:30 pm.
Moore got the lucky draw for qualifying order and was last to go out on the track. His time of 16.915 seconds put him 4th on the starting grid for the Star Country/Dominic's Sausage 150, which was a satisfying start for the Moore Racing Team.
Race time was scheduled for 7:00 PM and within the first few laps Moore came on the radio to update his team. "The car really doesn't have any grip and it's very hard to see anything." Moore reported that the 96 car was leaking oil and with that factored in with the sunset, it was extremely difficult for Moore to see anything when he was on the front stretch. His crew chief, Jamie Lorfano reminded Moore that there were several cars still on the lead lap and he would have to wait until the next caution flag for adjustments.
On lap 51, the three cars ahead of Moore chose to pit, giving him the lead. He held on to his position for some time, but fell back to 2nd on lap 66 when Mike Olsen took the lead. Andy Santerre was in a close 3rd, but Moore held him off and on lap 81 all top-10 drivers chose to take advantage of a caution flag to make pit stops. The Moore Racing Team had a great pit stop, making chassis adjustments and putting on right side tires. Moore lined up 9th off of pit road and his new rubber allowed him to pick cars off one by one. By lap 91, Moore fell into the 3rd spot and by lap 102 he was in 2nd.
The caution flag was thrown on lap 122 and with the double file restart Moore lined up on the outside of leader Matt Kobyluck. The 40 car held back at the start and Moore seemed to jump ahead some. He let off, for his start seemed questionable and the 40 car and 44 car got underneath him for the 1st and 2nd spot. The caution flag came out again on lap 133, and the No. 74 car would line up in 3rd, on the inside row. Moore was challenged by both the 4th and 5th place cars, but did a great job of holding his position. Another top-five finish for the Moore Racing Team helped their points chase. The Busch North Series will head to their home track of Oxford Plains Speedway next Saturday for the Fisher Snowplows 150.
