NOTES OF INTEREST
* This event will be the fourth "stand-alone" Busch North Series race at Nazareth Speedway, and the first since 1999. Until 2001, the annual Busch Series, Grand National Division race at Nazareth, usually held in May, was a "combination" race in which Busch North Series teams could score points. However, only three BNS drivers (Bryan Wall, Mike Olsen, and John Preston) ran at Nazareth in 2000.
* Past Busch North Series winners at Nazareth are Steve Park (1996), Bobby Dragon (1997), and Brad Leighton (1999).
* Park's win came in the only 8 a.m. Monday morning race in BNS history. It was rescheduled after rain, fog, and darkness plagued Sunday's program.
* Dragon's victory was his 14th and most recent to date in Busch North Series competition. Bobby is inactive in 2001, but never said he was retiring.
* Leighton's 1999 triumph saw him take the lead from Bud Pole winner Tom Carey on lap 43 and hold off Kelly Moore by half a second in a race extended to 105 laps to achieve a green-flag finish. Bryan Wall, Jeff Barry, and Mike Olsen completed the top five.
* The history of racing in Nazareth goes back to the fairgrounds located at the foot of the hill outside turn one of today's track, where the shopping center is located now. Stock car races were held on the dirt half-mile from 1947 to 1988, with Mario Andretti getting his start in racing during the 1950's. The current facility was built as a dirt track in 1965. It operated until 1971, lay dormant for a decade, reopened as a dirt track in 1981, and closed again in 1985. A group headed by Roger Penske acquired the track, paved it, and opened I again in 1987. The first NASCAR event was run in 1988. S national series, the Winston Cup S
