Oxford Plains Speedway Not To Ryan Seaman's Liking As He Finishes Sixteenth
(Oxford, Maine - Aug. 27, 2005) - Ryan Seaman's first impressions of Oxford Plains Speedway were not good ones, and his struggles at the track where the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series was born extended throughout practice, qualifying, and into the race where he wound up finishing sixteenth in his No. 06 ERS Fleet Repair Chevrolet.
Seaman was discouraged by the first practice results, and did not see things improve in the second session as he also had a spin off the track in that second round of practice. Qualifying was not much better, with the Toms River, N.J. driver only nineteenth-best.
In the race, Seaman was involved in a tangle right off the bat and lost significant track position, eventually to lose a lap to the leader. He pitted for a wedge adjustment under the first caution of the race, but then things went from bad to worse as he was hit in the left front by a car trying to get to pit road. He had to return to pit road to check the car's alignment on two separate occasions, while also still working on improving the car's handling with other chassis adjustments.
Seaman became the beneficiary, getting a lost lap back, under the lap 107 caution, but the car still wasn't handling well and Seaman wound up finishing sixteenth.
"It was a tough night for us," he said. "We worked hard and we just couldn't come to grips with the track. We threw everything we had at the car today and nothing seemed to work. You had to protect the bottom, no matter what. If you couldn't hold your car on the bottom, you were getting rooted out of the groove and going backwards. It wasn't a good race for us, it's not a good track for us to race on, and I'm pretty frustrated. I can't wait till we get back to Loudon."
Loudon hosts the next Busch North Series, which will be on Friday, Sept. 16th at New Hampshire International Speedway.
