NOTES OF INTEREST

The CarQuest Fall Final is a new event on the Busch North Series schedule, although it is a long-established date for the Featherlite Modified Series. Due to the cancellation of the September 15 events at New Hampshire International Speedway, it is the only same-day BNS-FMS doubleheader of the 2001 season. The Busch North Series race will run prior to the modified event.

Also due to the unfortunate cancellation at NHIS, Stafford Motor Speedway joins Beech Ridge Motor Speedway as the only tracks to host the Busch North Series three times in 2001.

The most recent Busch North Series race at Stafford, the ASB NASCAR 1550 on July 27, saw Martin Truex Jr. lead the last 125 laps in a dominant performance. Mike Olsen, Kelly Moore (who led the first 25 laps), Tracy Gordon and Dennis Demers completed the top five. One of the most impressive performances was turned in by Stafford graduate Brad Boissonneault, who finished sixth in his unsponsored car. Ted Christopher was the Bud Pole winner but finished 29th out of 30 starters. Truex averaged 51.704 mph through 7 caution periods for 50 laps.

In the first Busch North Series appearance at Stafford in 2001, the CarQuest Auto Parts 150 on June 22, Kelly Moore took the lead when Brad Leighton spun as the two raced side-by-side on lap 133. Leighton recovered to finish second with Stafford graduate Dennis Doyle matching his best career finish in third. Jerry Marquis and Dale Shaw were fourth and fifth. A total of eight caution periods for 48 laps slowed Moore's winning average speed to 52.376 mph. It was the first Stafford victory for the Busch North Series' all-time leading winner.

Kelly Moore set the current Stafford track record in winning the Bud Pole for the 2001 CarQuest Auto Parts 150 with a lap at 19.674 seconds, 91.491 mph. It broke his own record from one year earlier.

* Stafford Motor Speedway has hosted 16 previous Busch North Series races, with Andy Santerre and Mike Stefanik the only two time winners. One-time victors are Tommy Houston, Mike McLaughlin, Keith Lamell, Tom Bolles, Jerry Marquis, Rick Fuller, Brad Leighton, Dennis Demers, Ted Christopher, Mike Johnson, Kelly Moore, and Martin Truex Jr.

STAT OF THE WEEK

Through the MBNA E-Commerce 150 at Dover Downs International Speedway on September 21, 22 drivers have led Busch North Series races in 2001. Point leader Mike Olsen has led the most races (8); Paul Richardson has led the most races without winning (3), and Tracy Gordon is the only driver to win the only race he has led.
