Stafford Springs, CT- The familiarity of a racetrack really pays off, especially for rookie Ryan Moore. Placing third last time at Stafford, Moore backed it up by placing his R.C. Moore/Bill Dodge/Maine Lubrication Shell Rotella/Napa Auto parts Chevy fifth overall this past Friday night at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Moore did an excellent job throughout the entire day. In practice he wasn't sure how strong his car would actually be. "We were very loose in practice, the car just didn't want to handle for me," said Moore.
The skills of the young rookie really sparkled in time trials, as he earned third spot overall for the 150- lap event. "I just had a good feeling for the track and was able to get some good times in," said Moore. And it just so happened that Ryan would start behind Martin Truex and Andy Santerre, the same two drivers he was in Victory Lane with previously at Stafford.
Moore remained in the third spot for about 20 laps, when he was shuffled back to fourth. He rode in fourth until a caution period on lap 44, when Moore pitted for right side tires and made an adjustment to try to tighten up the car.
"We had to pit early to try to make some adjustments, but we had a really good stop and got back out on the track in 19th," said Ryan.
He just happened to fall into position right behind teammate and father Kelly Moore, who he would follow through the field. The event withstood several cautions throughout the evening, but the Moore Racing team maneuvered their cars around traffic and with fifty laps to go, Ryan was running seventh, a couple spots behind Dad who had just taken over the third spot.
Moore showed his racing prowess late in the event as he battled with Mike Olsen for a top-5 finish. When it was all said and done, Moore pulled it off, and got past the 61 car of Olsen for another impressive top-five finish for the R.C. Moore/Bill Dodge/Maine Lubrication Shell Rotella/Napa Auto parts Chevy team.
Crewmember Shawn Plowman was extremely impressed with the driving skills of the young rookie, "Tonight's race was all the driver, the car just wasn't handling the way we wanted to, and he drove it to a top-five finish."
Moore moved to second in the point standings with 773 points, behind Andy Santerre who has 853 points so far this season.
The Busch North Series is heading to Western New York for a 150-lap feature event on Saturday June 28.
