Ryan Moore's Rookie Season Begins to Wind Down

Stafford Springs, CT -- A beautiful fall afternoon allowed for the completion of the Carquest 150 Fall Final. Due to inclement weather, the race had been postponed twice. The Busch North Series drivers completed time trials last week prior to rainfall, and anxiously awaited the wave of the green.

Young Ryan Moore put his R.C. Moore/Bill Dodge/Shell Rotella Monte Carlo in the seventh starting spot for the 150-lap event. Moore took the green with hopes to earn himself a victory before the end of his rookie season next weekend.

Lapped traffic came early in the race and unfortunately brought difficulty to the Moore Racing Team. As the 74 car looked to make his move on the 5th and 6th place cars, a lapped car quickly became an obstacle. Moore chose to go high to pass the slower lapped car, but as he did so he was pushed up the race track and could not keep control. He handled the spin with extreme caution and skillfully kept his R.C. Moore Monte Carlo away from the fence. The Moore Racing Team took the opportunity to pit, and wisely chose to change right side tires and make chassis adjustments. "We were pretty tight out there," said Crew Chief Rollie Lachance, "We loosened the car up some and he should be set to get back up to the front."

Several cautions filled the afternoon, allowing for little green flag racing. Moore put on quite an amazing show for race fans as he made his way up through the field and had settled into 15th by lap 68. On lap number 80, the fourth caution flag of the day was thrown. Moore, now in the 12th spot, went to shift into third gear when his transmission stuck. The 13th place car of Dave Dion had nowhere to go, but into Moore's back bumper. As NASCAR noticed the fluids coming from the 29 car, the caution was put back out. Although the young Rookie was not forced to pit, he still suffered damages to the rear end. An un-lucky factor caused damages to both the 74 and the 29 car. "Moore is at no fault for what happened out there," said a disappointed Dion from Pit Road, "It happens to the best of us."

Moore maneuvered his disabled Monte Carlo around the track, encountering several caution flags. On lap 130, the Rookie experienced an extreme close call. Three cars crashed in turn three and as Moore made his way around the accident, he missed making contact by inches. The young driver's talent allowed for a twelfth place finish and the achievement of yet another Rookie of the Race Award. With only one race remaining for the Grand National Division, Busch North Series, Moore has mathematically captured the 2003 Reybestos Rookie of the Year Award. The talent that the young driver has shown thus far has been incredible. This nineteen year old racer has only reached the beginning of his racing career, and has already achieved several of the goals he has set for himself. He has proven to many that he has what it takes to take his career to the top. Moore was not the only Busch North Driver to capture a title before the season was complete. Andy Santerre has earned himself The Busch North Series Championship. Moore Racing would like to congratulate Andy on another successful season.
