* The inaugural Waterford 150 was held on August 5, 2000, with Brad Leighton coming out on top in a tight battle with Dennis Demers. Mike Johnson, Bryan Wall, and Kelly Moore completed the top five. Johnson led the first 70 laps after redrawing he pole position. An intense 30 lap segment saw the lead change six times among Waterford graduate Matt Kobyluck, Demers, and Johnson before Leighton took command on lap 101, having come all the way from 12th on the grid. The event was caution-plagued, with 79 laps run under the yellow flag, resulting in a 38.544 mph race average.
* Dennis Demers won his first career Bud Pole with a clocking of 15.178 seconds, 79.082 miles per hour, which became the first Busch North Series track record at Waterford.
* Matt Kobyluck of nearby Uncasville, Conn., is the only Waterford Speedbowl graduate competing regularly on the Busch North Series today, but Jeff Barry and Bobby Gada were BNS regulars for several seasons. Gada scored one Busch North Series victory at Riverside Park in 1992. Barry may enter some events during 2002.
* Waterford Speedbowl opened as a dirt track in April 1951, but was paved after less than a month of operation. It has run continuously as a paved track since May 1951. For many years it was operated by pioneer race promoter Harvey Tattersall as part of his United Stock Car Circuit which also included Riverside Park. Under the operation of Terry Eames, Waterford became a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series track in 2000, hosting both the Busch North Series and the Featherlite Modified Series.
STAT OF THE WEEK
Through the first six events of the expanded 2001 Busch North Series schedule, 22 drivers have competed in every event, and 25 drivers have attempted to qualify for every event. For the full season in 2000, 16 drivers started every stand-alone race and 19 attempted to qualify for every one. Since there are no combination races in 2001, the stand-alone concept no longer applies.
