BNS: Watkins Glen Friday wrap up

Ted Christopher successfully defended his title to The Glen 125K NASCAR Modified Series race at Watkins Glen today, capping a day of on track activity that was delayed by a steady drizzle.

Christopher (No. 13 Wynn's Motorsports Chevrolet) won his first race of the season after capturing his first pole yesterday. It was Christopher's fourth top five finish of the year. Points leader Jerry Marquis (No. 44 Teddy Bear Pools Pontiac) finished second and Charlie Pasteryak posted his best result of the season by finishing third. Marquis and Pasteryak benefited from white-flag lap spins by Tim Connolly and Rick Fuller. Connolly was running second at the time and would have taken the points lead from Marquis if not for the spin.

Meanwhile, rain postponed Kendall Qualifying Day until tomorrow. The stars of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series only practiced for about 75 minutes over two practice sessions in preparation for Sunday's Global Crossing @ The Glen. Road racing whiz Boris Said topped the charts in the hour-long afternoon practice session by posting a best lap of 1:12.998 (121.521mph). Three-time defending race champion Jeff Gordon was second fastest and local hero Brett Bodine was third.

Saturday's schedule will now feature a NASCAR Winston Cup Series practice session from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Qualifying for positions 1-36 will begin at 10:00 a.m. Provisionals instead of second round qualifying will determine the remaining positions.

The glen.com 150 Presented by Pepsi NASCAR Busch North Series race is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday.
