NOTES OF INTEREST:
*2001 will mark the nineteenth appearance of the Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring at Bristol Motor Speedway. The first race was in 1975 and the winner was Dean Combs. Dean Combs has also won the most Bristol events with four victories to his credit. (1975, 1979, both events in 1981.)
*When Roger Sawyer went to victory lane in 2000 it was also his first career victory in the Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring. Sawyer has two victories in the 2001 season to date.
*There has not been a repeat winner in this event since Dean Combs accomplished the feat in 1981. There were two events held at Bristol in 1981. That is a span of ten races without a repeat winner.
*Qualifying is an exciting time as well. Nearly every year the Bud Pole Winner also sets a new track record. Last year's Bud Pole Winner and Track Record Holder is B.J. Mackey. B.J. Mackey has had a tough year in 2001. He had a successful campaign in 2000 winning three times and finishing third in the points. Earlier this year his father passed away. Mackey has raced in selected events with different teams. However, Mackey is poised to win whenever he is behind the wheel.
*Points Leader Cam Strader is just one driver who is eager to add a win at the "World's Fastest Half-mile" to his resume. His lead in the points has dwindled some in the past few races. The battle for the Championship is shaping up for the season homestretch.
*Another interesting battle is raging between the 2001 MAG-KLIP Rookie of the Year Contenders. Tim Nichols enjoys a two point lead over Shane Hmiel. Wayne Edwards and Scott Redmon are close behind. Hmiel finished in 5th last year at Bristol. Nichols was side-lined early by a crash and finished in 30th place. Redmon finished 15th.
