EL CAJON, CA It will be one of the raciest nights of the season this Saturday night at Cajon Speedway. Six divisions will be in NASCAR Weekly Racing Series action on the 3/8 mile paved oval located next to Gillespie Field.

The featured division will be the highly competitive local street stock division. That group will be joined by the local pony and bomber stock drivers. Joining the fray will be the Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks, the Tri-State Ministockars, and the Allison Legacy cars. Race time is 6:45 PM. Qualifying runs will start at 5:00. Practice will kick things off at 4:00. It will be the second race of the season for the street stocks, who were scheduled to have last week off after their season opener on April 14. Of course last week's show was rained out. In the opener Scott Holmberg of San Diego outran the field. Rich Green Jr. of El Cajon has the point lead after running second to Holmberg in the feature 25-lapper.

Another 25-lap main event will be on tap this Saturday. The pony and bomber stocks will run 20-lap features as will the mini-stockars. A 15-lap affair is offered in the Legacy cars. The Speed Trucks will be making their second appearance of the year and will run 30-laps. The train race scheduled for last week will be made up this weekend.

Green has the points lead in the division by virtue of earning what are called passing points. At Cajon the faster qualifiers are forced to start at the back of the pack. This makes for better racing. But to reward those quicker qualifiers, they are rewarded with two points for each car they pass. Since Green passed 16 cars on opening night, he earned 32 passing points plus the 5 he got for fast time and the 48 for finishing second. Holmberg meanwhile got the 50 points for winning, but only 12 passing points. Thus he sits in third place in the hunt after the first race of the year.

Alpine's Rick Hagen, last year's rookie of the year in the street stocks, currently is second in points. Behind Holmberg is rookie Frank Stielau of El Cajon and another sophomore racer Brian Collins of Encinitas.
