EL CAJON, CA. The stock car drivers at Cajon Speedway will be hoping for better weather this weekend. They will try once again to kick off their local auto racing season this Saturday night at the 3/8 mile paved oval. Last Saturday night’s rainout was only the 30th in the 40-year history of the Gillespie Field track. Not surprisingly 18 of those have come during the opening month of the season. But no month has been immune to weather problems.
This Saturday night the same four divisions that were scheduled a week ago will be back - plus one more. The late model sportsman, street, pony, and bomber stocks will be joined by the Allison legacy cars. Race time is 6:45 PM. Qualifying runs start at 5:15 PM. The gates will open and the practice (also known as hot laps) will begin at 4:00. Capping the action will be the destruction derby also washed out last Saturday.
A 40-lap main event is on tap for the late model sportsman on the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series card. The street stocks will run a 25-lap feature. The pony, bomber, and legacy cars all will run 20-circuits. The show will also include a trophy dash for the four fastest qualifiers in one of the divisions. That is a quick 4-lap sprint and will be followed by the qualifying 8-lap heat races. Those contests will determine the starting lineups for the main events.
