EL CAJON, CA. Cajon Speedway is ready for a very varied week of motor sports. A touch of this, a bit of that, and a lot of the unexpected are on tap for the 3/8 mile paved oval this week.

Wednesday night, July 4, the track hosts its annual fireworks show that will come after an evening of the unusual. Then the more traditional auto racing fare returns Saturday night, July 7.

Race time both nights is 6:45 PM. On Saturday qualifying runs will start at 5:15 PM preceded by practice at 4:00.

More than forty entries have been received for the 150-lap factory stock enduro that will be the opening event on July 4. The first 75 laps will be run in one direction before the cars are turned around for the second half of the race. This will prevent drivers from making special adjustments to the suspension of what are supposed to be "stock" cars (allowing for safety modifications). Following the enduro, there will also be a Bus Jump. And by popular demand, the night will conclude with Boat Trailer Race III. The fireworks will be sent skyward at 9:00.

Saturday night's oval track racing will include the NASCAR late model sportsman, street, pony, and bomber stocks, plus the Pro-Four modifieds. The Pro-Four cars are highly sophisticated racecars. All cars are powered by 4-cylinder racing motors, with a maximum of 2350cc displacement, and have a 1-pound per cc weight rule for 2-valve engines, and a 1.1-pound per cc weight rule for the 4-valve engines. The amazing performance level of these cars is "equal to" or "faster than" that of their big brother, the late model sportsman. At Cajon the track record for the cars is 79.88 mph set by Rocky Nash back in 1996. But the track was repaved after the Pro-Fours last appeared at Cajon in 1998 so that mark should be in jeopardy Saturday night. Heading the entry list for the Pro Fours is Lakeside's Eddie Secord. Secord is a former pony stock champion at Cajon.
