FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 27, 1997

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. -- NASCAR Officials announced today in Daytona Beach, Fl. the return of the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series to the world famous Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 100 mile event is scheduled to take place, under the lights, the evening of July 23rd, in conjunction with Indy Racing League qualifying night. This event marks the first appearance of the 4-cylinder sub-compact Series to Charlotte since 1988.

Two time series champion, Larry Caudill of North Wilkesboro, N. C., won the first Dash Series event ever held at the historic speedway in 1975. Charlotte hosted two events for the NASCAR Dash Series in 1988, both of which were also won by Caudill on his way to his second consecutive series title.

Mike Swaim Sr., of High Point, N.C., has scored the most series victories at Charlotte, posting four trips to victory lane. Both drivers are still active in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series today and are probable entries for this year's event. Mike Swaim Jr., one of the young NASCAR stars of the future and part of the youth movement currently taking place in the series will join his father, Swaim Sr., in an attempt to continue the winning Swaim tradition. Other past winners of Dash Series events at Charlotte Motor Speedway, include such notables as five time NASCAR Dash champion and leader in the All Time Winners category, Dean Combs and Winston Cup racing star, Hut Stricklin. More than fifty entries are expected to be on hand for this exciting addition to the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series schedule.

Also announced today, the addition of Volusia County Speedway, in Barberville, Fl., to the 1997 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series Schedule of Events. The 4th Annual Rodney Orr Memorial 100 will be held at the speedway September 6, 1997. Mike Swaim, Jr., of High Point, N. C, won this event in 1996, and will be on hand to defend his race title. The scheduled race date brings the teams together at the peak of the anticipated points battle, and will, as in years past, be a pivotal event towards determining the 1997 series champion.

The addition of these two events brings the total number of NASCAR Goody's Dash Series races scheduled for the 1997 racing season to twenty-two events. This is the most events scheduled for the series since 1977.

Further announcements concerning both of these events will be forthcoming as the details are finalized.
