DJ KENNINGTON AND CASTROL DODGE FIFTH IN EDMONTON
July 26, 2008. DJ Kennington and the Castrol/ Haldex Dodge have been on a great run of consistent finishes near the front of the field in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. As round number six concluded at the Edmonton Indy weekend it was another top-five finish for the team.
The performance of the Castrol/Haldex Dodge was evident right from the beginning for practice. Kennington chose to only run a handful of laps understanding what the car was showing. "Our car was terrific right away and with limited track time that really helps" said Kennington. "Not having to make drastic changes makes everything easier".
Track conditions changed slightly and did not favour the Castrol/Haldex Dodge during qualifying and Kennington would start the 100km main event from the seventh position. "We were off just a bit" said the driver and having to race on the same tires for the whole race we didn't want to push too hard. We felt good about our chances".
When the green flag waved on the race Kennington looked to improve the position of the Castrol/Haldex Dodge. With a tough, competitive field it was difficult sledding trying to gain positions. "The car was just a little bit tight" said Kennington. "And even just that little bit makes it tough".
Working hard to not only maintain position but move forward a couple of late race caution periods helped bunch the field back together. Kennington would use this to his advantage and move forward in the closing stages of the race, picking up two spots and come away with another top-five finish.
It was another solid performance for the Castrol/Haldex Dodge team and Kennington believes there is definitely even greater success ahead. "The car was just a little bit tight and that's all it was. I've got some ideas of what to change and hopefully we'll get better yet. I've got lots of motor it's just a matter of getting the power to the track and we'll find it".
With his fifth top-five finish of the season DJ Kennington sits third in the overall championship standings.
NASCAR Canadian Tire series competition resumes this coming weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Kennington will be proudly sporting the Castrol Colours in both the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race and the Busch Series event. The 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire series will consist of thirteen events on ovals, road courses and temporary street circuits from coast to coast.
