Dale Quarterley's Return To Lime Rock Yields 25th Place Finish

Lime Rock, Conn. (Aug. 16, 2008) - Dale Quarterley, a NASCAR Busch North Series winner at Lime Rock Park in 2001 and 2003, made his 2008 debut in what is now known as the NASCAR Camping World Series at that same track Saturday. The results this time around weren't as good, as a broken sway bar arm cost the driver of the No. 32 Alex Arden Racing Chevrolet a lap in the pits making repairs, and the Westfield, Mass. driver eventually retired from the event with a 25th place finish.

Quarterley hadn't made a Camping World Series start since September 2006, returned to action at a track that saw him win in a classic duel with Brad Leighton in October 2003. Last-minute preparations kept the team from getting on the track in the first practice session, and he only turned a handful of laps in the second. He was given the 31st starting spot after rain washed out qualifying.

Despite the lack of practice, Quarterley started out strongly in the race. He stopped a couple of times early to make chassis adjustments, although that second stop nearly cost him a lap on the track.

"After the second adjustment, we came out and I didn't realize they were going green that lap," he said. "We came out of the pits barely in front of the field. Those guys got to me in a lap and I held them off for three. Steve Park got by me, but then he overdrove and I got back by him, and we got a caution so I could come back around. That showed that I definitely had a decent car."

Through the middle stages of the race, Quarterley was content to put in laps and set himself up for a strong finish. The race was stopped shortly after halfway for an hour-plus rain delay, but once that was over with the field was set for a thirty-lap dash to the finish. Shortly after the restart, though, a sway bar arm broke and that affected the handling, and Quarterley came in under caution for repairs.

"We stopped and tried to put another arm on it, and that got us down a lap," he said.

With the chance of winning just about over, Quarterley thought the smart thing to do was to bring the car in and save it for another race.

"I was watching the guys in front of me while we were racing and I just had a feeling that things were going to get bad and we might hurt the car. We could have finished if we wanted to, but it wasn't worth the risk," he said. "The car was decent. It wasn't good enough to win, but it was good enough to compete for a top-ten finish. We'll get to race it again."

Quarterley's goal is to race again when the Camping World East Series comes to Dover International Speedway in September.
