GRESHAM FEASTS AT SOUTH BOSTON, SCORES FIRST CAREER NASCAR K&N PRO SERIES EAST VICTORY

SOUTH BOSTON, VA (April 3, 2010) -- Two bologna burgers, two trophies, please.

Max Gresham took a bite out of everything South Boston Speedway had to offer capturing the pole and leading virtually wire to wire to win the South Boston 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race Saturday. To celebrate the accomplishments, the 16-year old driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota sampled the track's famous concession staple.

"I had two bologna burgers," Gresham stated. "One before the race and one after. The second one tasted much better."

Gresham and his Gresham & Associates Toyota feasted on the four-tenths mile 'SOBO' oval all day winning his first-ever NASCAR pole position with a lap of 16.089 seconds -- a scant one-one thousandths of a second better than his JGR teammate Brett Moffitt.

At the drop of the green flag, Gresham bolted into the lead, a position he would surrender for just four of the 150 circuits. The win was anything but easy, however, as Gresham had to first hold off Moffitt and then a late-race charge by Cole Whitt.

"It was a bummer that Brett got spun out because I really wanted to race him for the win," said Gresham of Moffitt, who tangled with Whitt on Lap 96. "We were really even and we talked before the race that we were going to be fast together. He had a great car too and we wanted it to be a 1-2 finish for Joe Gibbs Racing."

With Moffitt back in the pack, it was Whitt's turn to challenge Gresham for the top spot. He got his chance on a series of late-race restarts, but couldn't pull it off as Gresham's JGR mount was too strong for anyone in the 26-car starting field.

"The last 20 laps were really fun," said Gresham. "I had one double-file restart at the end of the race that I was a little worried about. I have to thank Cole for racing me clean. I can't wait to race with him again at the next K&N Series race at Iowa."

At the finish, it was Gresham by three car lengths over Whitt, Ryan Truex, Ryan Gifford and Matt Kobyluck. Moffitt put on a stellar drive to recover from the spin and finish sixth while Eddie MacDonald, Drew Brannon, D.J. Shaw and Ty Dillon completed the Top-10 finishers.

"Mike Sibley (Gresham's crew chief) and the JGR guys put a great set up under this car," said Gresham in Victory Lane. "I could drive the car anywhere I wanted. The whole team was just excellent. We put a great car out there and we were fast throughout the whole race. I really have to thank the team, Joe Gibbs and Toyota for giving me this opportunity."

Gresham will make his ARCA debut this coming weekend traveling to Salem (IN) Speedway for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 250. The event on the venerable Salem oval will also be a first for Gresham Motorsports, which to date has concentrated on Late Model and Legends racing.

"I know we are going to have a great car," said Gresham. "It's a former Joe Gibbs Racing car that Tony Stewart drove and my crew chief, Gene Roberts, has a lot of experience in the NASCAR Cup Series. He knows what these cars need. I know we're going to be ready and even though I haven't ever raced at Salem, I have a lot of confidence going into next weekend's race -- especially after winning today."
