Steve Park Eight At South Boston, Third In Camping World East Points, With Watkins Glen On The Horizon

South Boston, Va. (May 31, 2008) - Steve Park sits third in NASCAR Camping World East Series points after he recorded his third top-ten finish in three races. His eighth place finish at South Boston (Va.) Speedway puts him in elite company, one of only two drivers who have scored top-tens in each of the series' races run to date.

Park was fast all day in the No. 35 Waste Management Recycle America Chevrolet, posting top-ten times in both afternoon practice sessions but slipping to seventeenth in time trials. But there were no concerns in the NDS Motorsports camp at the beginning of the race when Park quickly set off for the front of the field.

Saturday's Strutmasters.com 150 was slowed by fifteen cautions that left many cars with crash damage as the event went on. Park was not immune as he was caught up in some of the wrecks that were difficult to avoid on the tight 4/10-mile oval.

"Everybody in this series races hard," he explained, "but there are some who might be racing too hard too early in the race and that's causing problems. It's up to me to learn who these drivers are and how they race, and that'll pay off because I'll know who I can race with early and who I might have to stay away from until we get down to the last few laps."

Despite needing to come to pit road to have body damage repaired on his own car, Park took advantage of the brief green-flag runs throughout the race to wind up eighth at the end.

"I think it was a good race from the fan's perspective," he said. "It definitely was action-packed, though there were too many caution laps.

"We had a good car and a good race for a short-track race. We got a good top-ten finish out of it and we could still roll the car onto the trailer when we were done, so that's a good night," Park continued.

Now sitting third in the series points standings, Park heads to a track where he scored his first NASCAR Winston Cup victory. Watkins Glen International hosts the Camping World East Series on Sunday, June 8.

"I love road course racing," he said. "It's twice as fun for us because we get to turn left and right. I was talking to some of the other drivers on Saturday and some said they don't like road racing and they didn't really want to go, and I think those are the drivers we've already beat even before we unload the cars. It's all about going in with the right attitude."

NDS Motorsports tested at The Glen last week and were happy with the results.

"We used the test to get the car on the track and make sure it didn't have any leaks and that the engine, transmission, and rear end were all working fine," he explained. "Those are the three things that, if you have a problem with them during practice, you'll lose the rest of practice changing those out. We don't get a lot of practice time so we need to make sure we don't lose any due to mechanical problems, and we got that all worked out at the test."

East Series teams will practice at the Glen on Friday, June 6, and qualify the next day. Their 125 lap race will get the green flag at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
