Petty Enterprises/McCumbee in Victory Lane at Pocono

OVERVIEW:

Chad McCumbee celebrated in victory lane Saturday afternoon in the ARCA RE/MAX Pocono 200 at the 2.5-mile Pocono (Penn.) Raceway. The car was a Petty Enterprises Dodge with Billy Wilburn and the #45 crew leading McCumbee to the front. For McCumbee, it was his first start for Petty Enterprises. He will race the Goody's Cool Orange Dodge in Sunday's Pocono 500 at the same track. Tim Andrews, son of #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge crew chief Paul Andrews finished third in Sunday's race. The car Andrews raced is a former Petty Enterprises Dodge.

McCumbee and the #62 Victory Junction Gang Camp/Goody's Cool Orange Dodge started in the fifth position in Sunday's race. At the drop of the green it was McCumbee showing the field his muscle. McCumbee didn't get to the top spot, but instead followed behind Andrews who was off like a shot. McCumbee was letting the 80-lap race come to him when trouble hit. A flat left-front tire forced McCumbee down pit road. The caution came out for the incident. McCumbee and the #45 crew were able to make repairs. The team lost one lap in the process, but the problem was fixed.

The team now had 60 laps to get back on the lead lap. The team, however, had to start in the rear of the field and was unable to catch up to the field before they went back to green. The next caution McCumbee was able to catch the field, but was still a lap down. Luckily the caution's kept coming and by lap 60 McCumbee was back on the lead lap. He now had to work his way through the field in 20 laps. The Victory Junction Gang Camp/Goody's Cool Orange Dodge was on a rail. McCumbee blistered the field and took the win by over 2.5 seconds.

McCumbee pulled into victory lane and celebrated with the crew. Richard Petty, Kyle Petty and Bobby Labonte were also in victory lane to greet the young up-and-comer.

Tim Andrews also cut through the field after he had to change a tire. Andrews, like McCumbee, charged through the field with no problems. Andrew finished third in Saturday's race.

"This is great," said McCumbee. "We just had a great car today. It was easy to race it, but we had to work hard in the race. I could put it hard into the turns. I knew we had something good, but the cut tire hurt us. Billy and the entire crew did an awesome job of getting me back in the game. I knew we had a good chance once we got back on the lead lap.

"It's awesome to put Victory Junction Gang Camp and Goody's Cool Orange in victory lane. I am just excited for the opportunity that Petty Enterprises has given me and Goody's Cool Orange too. Billy and I just worked through what we had to on the track. The car was great. The Evernham Engine was full of power. I think we showed them what we had pretty early. The win is just the explanation point."

The race was broadcast on a tape-delayed basis by the SPEED Channel.
