CARQUEST SPRING SIZZLER / KERRY MALONE FAST FACTS
The Task Ahead: Kerry Malone and the Independent Truck Service/Murphy General Contracting Racing team arrive at the Stafford Motor Speedway this weekend for the running of the CarQuest Spring Sizzler. The CarQuest Spring Sizzler is the first visit to Stafford for the combination of Malone and car owner Bobby Fuller. Fuller is ready for success at Stafford and says, "The track will be fast because of the new surface. Although we've had some tough luck the past couple of times out, Kerry has a great attitude and is focused on running well. We think we're going to have a great weekend!" The CarQuest Spring Sizzler is also the debut of two new Associate Sponsors for the Kerry Malone driven Modified: Relaxing Custom Embroidery, and Steve's Lawn Care.
Last Weekend: (Goody's 200, Martinsville VA) For Kerry Malone and the Independent Truck Service/Murphy General Contracting Racing Team, the Goody's 200 was the opportunity to showcase the team in front of a national television audience. The Bobby Fuller owned #17 proved that it would be a contender as the Needham (MA) resident turned in the third quickest time in qualifying. Starting the 200-lap event on the inside of the second row, Malone ran the early stages of the race in fourth place, keeping pace with leader Mike Stafanik, and the second and third place cars of Tim Connolly and Jamie Tomaino. A lap 84 caution brought the leaders in for pit stops. As the #17 reentered the track, a loose wheel came off the car, resulting in the need for assistance to get the car back into the pits. Consequently, seven laps were lost. After rejoining the race, Malone was able to resume the fast pace, and was credited with a 19th place finish in the event won by Mike Ewanitsko.
Up Next: The Featherlite Modified Series will be back in action on Sunday, May 17th at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania. For more information on the happenings at Roger Penske's one-mile facility, contact the track at (610) 759-8000.
