FMS: Martinsville race notes

MARTINSVILLE, VA -- Mike Ewanitsko got past John Fortin with 78 laps to go Saturday afternoon and held on to capture the Advance Auto Parts 200 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour race at Martinsville Speedway. Ewanitsko started on the pole, but fell back in the field after a pit stop. His Chevrolet was strong enough, though, to allow him to quickly power back through the field for his third Modified Tour race of the season. "We came out of the trailer this morning and in practice the car felt like it was a Sunday drive through the corners," said Ewanitsko after his fourth career Modified win at the .526-mile track. "I told them not to touch a thing on the car." Rick Fuller of Auburn, MA finished second, followed by Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, CT, John Blewett III and Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT. Ewanitsko, of North Babylon, NY, picked up $11,975 for the victory. There were 10 caution periods for 50 laps and there were five lead changes among five drivers. The Old Dominion 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race will take the green flag at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Good seats remain for the Old Dominion 500 and can be purchased with gates open at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
