FMS: Nevin George Lake Erie summary

Nevin George and the Zero Team head to Wall Township Speedway for the Featherlite Modified Series Race on Saturday, June 26, 2004

The Zero team's day ended early last June in the Busch 150. It was a hot day as the teams practiced and qualified. Chuck Hossfeld would also have his day end early as he was involved in an incident with Tony Hirschman, Nevin George and Robbie Summers in turn two. "Steady" Eddie Flemke was also part of the pinball-type action. Early in the race we had five cautions and plenty of contact on the track. George's day would end after being involved in a melee on lap 53. At Wall Township Speedway, if you have to pit, you must exit the track and wait for a caution to get back onto the track. Many teams, including George's, were stuck waiting for a caution to get back to racing.

The Howell, New Jersey, contingent would take the top honors with John Blewett III winning the event. Ken Woolley Jr. was second, and Ted Christopher 0x2022 the only non-NJ "interloper", finished third. Jimmy Blewett was fourth and Jamie Tomaino was fifth.

It is apparently clear the home field advantage is in play at WTS. George, who hails from Kunkletown, PA, expects he'll have a much better run this time around. WTS is close-quarters racing for the Featherlite Modified Series. George says it's not much different from Riverhead Raceway other than the banking. The distance is 1/3-mile with 30 degree banking in the corners and 16 degree banking on the straightaway.

George looks forward to bettering his 25th place finish of last season. He left Lake Erie Speedway last week with his second best finish of the season -- seventh place in the Ralph Solhem-owned car.

George is currently 14th in the championship point standings. The #0 has experienced a bit of racing misfortune earlier this year. George says, "The gray cloud has lifted. I know the team has worked hard and kept me going when our luck looked like it would never change, but Ralph Solhem and the crew kept the Bruce George Excavating Chevrolet competitive for me, and I will certainly do my best to get us back in the top ten in points. The key to be competitive at WTS is to qualify up front and avoid the unexpected!"

The next event after Wall for the Featherlite Modified Series will be July 17, 2004, at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.
