Free pass helps George Maintain 7th place in championship point standings - looks forward to return to Stafford

Nevin George made the most of a "free pass" to make the field for the Bud 150 held at Thompson International Speedway last Thursday. George drew the unenviable position of first qualifier of the day. The #0 Bruce George Paving entry would need to use their first provisional of the season to start 29th.

Starting at the back of the field is usually a disadvantage, and that night was no different. Early contact with Todd Szegedy and L.W. Miller would end any chance for a win, as George would require multiple pit stops to adjust the racecar. The Bruce George Paving and Excavating Chevrolet was handful after about 20 laps as the #0 would get severely tight and became almost impossible to steer. George and car owner/crew chief, Ralph Solhem, worked together to make adjustments through the event as they tried to remain in contention.

Their efforts would pay off with a respectable 14th place finish, just one lap down from the leaders. The finish would be enough to keep George in 7th place in the championship point standings.

George is looking to improve on that finish and hopes to capture his third Bud Pole Award of the season when he takes his two qualifying laps around the half-mile race track of Stafford Motor Speedway. The American Sleeve Bearing, American Classic 150 will be held this Friday evening, August 23rd. George took the Bud Pole Award in May for the rain-delayed Connecticut Classic 150.

George says he looks forward to his return to Jack Arute's Stafford Motor Speedway, and adds that he would like nothing better than to end Ted Christopher's FMS dominance at the speedway as Christopher tries for his fourth win in a row.

Ralph Solhem says George and he are able to communicate well and are ready for their second win of the season. He added, "We have the set up to qualify well and I have gone back to the notes from previous races -- we should be a factor on Friday."

At the Connecticut Classic 150, rescheduled to July 8th, George survived unbearable heat, early trouble and a flat tire to finish twelfth. Each race has helped the team jell and become more consistent. Their pits stops are getting the job done and Nevin says Ralph is like a magician with the racecar. George spends time at Solhem's shop in Milford, Connecticut, when he can get time off from his job at Bruce George Paving and Excavating. Though his dad owns the company, the young George still must make a living! Solhem appreciates "the kids' enthusiasm and work ethic. He definitely has potential and the character to win many races."
