BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 18, 2001 . . . For a number of years NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway has had a provisional starter program in place. A NASCAR Modified driver that does not qualify for a Saturday night feature race at the Berks County clay oval is eligible to take a provisional feature starting position provided he finished in the top ten in the previous season's point standings.
Now, management has added even more incentive for a modified racer to be in the top five in the track point standings each week. Provisional feature starting positions will be available to drivers in the top five in modified points at the start of each Saturday night of racing.
And the same will be true for those racing NASCAR Late Models at Grandview Speedway. Though there is no provisional program for those who finished in the top ten in the prior season point standings, there is now a top five point standings provisional program in place.
Racers that take benefit of the top five point standings provisionals will be able to do that as often as needed during the season as long as they maintain a top five standing.
However, top ten provisionals based on the previous season point standings can be used only twice during the season.
Though it would seem unrealistic, it is possible that six racers could take a provisional start in the NASCAR Modified feature on a Saturday night at Grandview. That would create a 35 car starting field.
"We think it really will add to the feature shows. Fans attending the events will have pretty good assurance that their favorites will be in the feature fields for both the modifieds and late models. And it gives the racers even more incentive to perform well, race harder, and stay in the top five," said event organizer Bruce Rogers.
Grandview Speedway continues to present NASCAR sanctioned modified and late model stock car racing each Saturday throughout the season.
And on Saturday, April 28, the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models will be joined by the PA Sportsman in a 5 p.m. tripleheader. The Budd Olsen Race Cars Night will include a hauler display that features Olsen race cars and has drivers on hand to sign autographs. The display will be in the turn one spectator area prior to the start of stock car racing action.
Grandview Speedway, now in its 39th season of professional stock car racing, is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown.
