Irwindale, Calif. - - One of California NASCAR racing's favorite sons will be making a special guest appearance at Irwindale Speedway this Saturday night to meet with the fans and to sign autographs. Ron Hornaday AC Delco car #2 driver, two-time Craftsman Truck Champion, two-time Featherlite SW Series Champion, the winner of 17 Winston West races, and Dale Earnhardt's first hired driver, will take some time out to visit his many fans at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night from 5:30 to 7PM.

"He's a one of a special breed of drivers," said Irwindale' director of competition, Lester Boyer. "His dad, Ron Sr., was a great driver and Ron followed closely in those footsteps right into two championships in the Truck series. Ron is one of those drivers that just seems to get the job done, a great driver and a genuinely nice man -- It's good that he'll be able to spend this Saturday night with his fans out here."

Hornaday, while never having raced on the Irwindale track, made a couple of visits early-on in the construction stage and "complained" that there just weren't tracks like this when he was racing in local weekly competition. "From what I've seen on television and what I've heard from my friends, Irwindale has turned out to be, if anything, even more competitive and more fan-friendly than anyone ever expected. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again five years down the line from my last visit.

Although we can't promise anything -- The first race of the night on Saturday is a 50-lapper on the third-mile for Irwindale's new Pure Stock division and there are a number of car owner/drivers who have already volunteered their cars should any visiting NASCAR star be so inclined. Do we need to mention that Ron was the superman of Saugus racing and winning there on a regular basis on the -- guess what? Third-mile oval. Might he be tempted? Do bears hide in the woods? No promises now, but as you may already know, RH Jr. is about as competitive as anyone who ever sat in one of those aluminum bucket seats.

Other NASCAR stars, we can't say who or when, are very likely to be dropping in on Saturday night just to see what's happening at Irwindale where there's always something interesting and competitive going on.
