NASCAR GOODY'S DASH SERIES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 10, 1997

NASCAR GOODY'S DASH TEAM SHARING THE WEALTH

Robert Huffman and the White House Apple Juice Race Team have recently initiated a program that will allow them to contribute donations to a long list of charitable organizations in the name of the race team and White House Apple Juice after every race in which the team competes. As this program is laid out, the Claremont, NC driver will donate one dollar for every lap that he completes to a different charity after each race. National Fruit Products, the parent Company of the White House Apple Juice brand that sponsors Huffman's NASCAR Goody's Dash Series entry, has also come on board to match Huffman's contributions. "Robert came to us with this idea a few weeks ago and we jumped at the opportunity." said Dan Troope, Vice President of Marketing for National Fruit Products Company. "I think it's a great thing that he's doing. We were happy to support him and honored to be a part of it." Huffman implemented the program prior to the Lanier National Raceway event in May, and has continued to name a different charity at each event. To date, the Baptist Children's Home of Thomasville, NC, the Motor Racing Outreach (M.R.O.) program, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization of Catawba Valley and the American Heart Association-Catawba Valley Chapter have been the beneficiaries of the team's generosity. Huffman's involvement in charitable organizations is in part, the result of a life and marriage enrichment program that he, and wife, Ashley chose to participate in over the winter to help guide them through the trials of life. But, long time observers of Huffman actually began to see some changes last year when his son, Landon was born. From the time the new addition to the Huffman family was just a few weeks old, you seldom saw Robert outside of the race car that Landon was not in his arms. It was a sensitive side of the hard charging, hard racing Robert Huffman that most people had not seen. "Ashley and Landon really helped put everything in perspective for me." says Huffman. "You realize what's important in life and what your priorities are. I've got to give Randy Claypoole with Motor Racing Outreach a lot of credit too, for what he's done with, not only me, but everyone in the series. He's given us all a lot of guidance and done it without pushing it on us. You see it after every race. Randy's right there, whether you win or lose, to help you deal with whatever the situation may be. As for the contributions, that's just something we can do to help some of the organizations that are doing so much to help others. And we're not the only ones doing it. I know the Hobgoods and the Sockwells are also involved with some charities, Chad Branham was working with a charity in Daytona and I'm sure there's probably others that are supporting one charity or another but just not doing it publicly." Don't get the idea that the kinder, gentler Huffman has become a push over on the track. You won't find a racer anywhere, more focused on the job at hand. The job, in this case, winning a second NASCAR Goody's Dash Series championship. You can bet that if you're behind the yellow number thirty seven and the white flag's in the air, charity will just have to wait for one more lap.
