Strunk gets title at Grandview, looks for first Freedom 76 win.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 6, 2002 . . . Jeff Strunk has wrapped up the 2002 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modified Championship at Grandview Speedway. It is the second time that Strunk has won the Modified stock car driving title at the Berks County oval. However, he has never won the T.H.Properties Freedom 76 Modified Classic. He hopes to change that on Saturday, September 14th.

With $20,000 or more waiting for the winner of the 76 lap event, starting with qualifying events at 7 p.m., it is an event that just about every dirt track modified stock car racer would like to add to their resume in the victory section. Strunk is no different. The Bethel, PA racer has won big events and titles at several of the area tracks. Only the T.H.Properties Freedom 76 eludes him. He has come close a couple of times.

Strunk and the Keith Harring Cummins/T.H.Properties sponsored #W9 Modified will have plenty of competition in the quest for the rich classic victory.

Craig VonDohren, the defending champion of the race, has not had the best of seasons. Only Billy Pauch has been able to win the Freedom 76 two years in a row. Craig VonDohren would like to be the second driver to win the race two years in a row with the Mrs. T's Pierogies sponsored #114 Modified.

Meme DeSantis, winner of the Stauffer Construction Forrest Rogers Classic earlier in the season, is a strong favorite to make a run for the rich win. He has had an impressive season at the Grandview Speedway in 2002.

Others who are considered popular choices to be in victory lane at the end of 76 laps of excitement featuring a 40 car starting field, are Kerry Kratz, Terry Meitzler, Randy Bailey, Doug Manmiller, Ray Swinehart, Tom Mayberry, Glenn Strunk and a number of others. Of course there is always the possibility that an outsider, a visitor, may show up and take the win. It has happened in the past..but not often.

Kochel Equipment of Elverson, PA has posted $150 for the first alternate who does not make the feature field. And Area Auto Racing News has posted a special award for the Hard Luck Driver.

The winner also collects a custom made Freedom 76 Championship ring with a value of more than $1,0000. And there is close to $1,000 in lap money posted for leaders of each lap.

Fans will have an opportunity to win on T.H.Properties Freedom 76 race day with Rosenberger's Dairy posting $300, at least, for the winner of the Rosenberger's Dairy Powerball promotion. And Area Auto Racing News is putting up $200 ($400 if you are a subscriber to the publication) for a lucky fan as part of a special contest. And fans are invited to come out at 3 p.m. to be part of pre-race activities that will include autograph sessions, music, interviews and for the kids there will be face painting and finger printing.

Voice Stream Communications will also be on hand to introduce fans to their communication opportunities.

There will be a live rendition of the National Anthem along with other musical selections to celebrate this special day in racing. The event magazine, a combination yearbook and Freedom 76 event book, will include dozens of color photographs, a color center spread, along with stories on the champions, season statistics, a history of the track, a history of the Freedom 76, a rundown on the season and much, much more. The book will be available on race day for just $5.00 a copy and will be 60 pages thick.

More than 80 modified racers are expected to be on hand for the 32nd annual T.H.Properties Freedom 76. A Sunday, September 15, 7 p.m. rain date is in place, just in case of bad weather.

Closing out the regular Saturday night season at Grandview Speedway will be open competition events on Saturday, September 21 and 28th, starting at 6 p.m.

Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA just 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
