NASCAR Night of Patriotism scheduled for the Bullring at LVMS

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Motor Speedway will honor the brave men and women who protect our country this Saturday night at the Bullring.

All military personnel, police officers and firefighters -- with identification -- and their accompanying families will be admitted free to the final points night of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. All others will be admitted for $5.

"The tragic events of last week certainly reaffirmed the role our military, police officers and firefighters play in our daily lives," said Chris Powell, executive vice president and general manager at LVMS." We want to show our appreciation for all they do, and this is just one small way we can do that."

In addition, fans will see special prices at the LVMS concession stands. Fans may purchase a hot dog or hamburger and a soft drink or draft beer for $5.

Saturday night's activities will be a tribute to America with the following:

* Fans, drivers and crewmembers are invited to join in a group performance of the National Anthem.

* All cars will display a vinyl American flag, courtesy of Finish Line Graphics.

* Patriotic music will be played throughout the night.

* Fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.

* Pit Stop Die Cast will provide three gift certificates for 1/24-scale Michael Waltrip Stars and Stripes die cast cars to be used as door prizes.

* The American Red Cross will be on hand to accept donations.

The" Night of Champions" will be the last chance for fans to cheer their favorite NWRS drivers to victory. The championships for NASCAR Late Models (40 laps), Grand American Modifieds (35 laps), Chargers (25 laps), Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends Cars (30 laps) and Bandolero Cars (10 laps) will be determined. The main event fields will be set based on qualifying times. Demolition derby drivers will compete in a tire race.

Points leader Jason Allen, a rookie, looks to clinch the first NASCAR Late Model championship. Veterans Steve Anderson and Ray Hooper Jr. threaten Allen's lead. Allen leads Anderson by 18 points and Hooper by 21.

Doug Hamm continues to lead the Grand American Modified division. Hamm has a mere two-point lead over 2000 track champion Fabian Bray.

Don Sargent has taken over as the Charger division points leader. One point separates Pat Petrie Sr. and Sargent, who were tied for the lead prior to the last race.

Spencer Clark is the only driver who has clinched a division championship before the final race of the season. Clark leads Kyle Busch by 71 points in the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends Cars division.

Joey Mogar has a four-point lead over Alex Haase in the Bandolero Car division.

Saturday is designated as NWRS souvenir night. Some fans will receive official NASCAR merchandise including polo shirts, T-shirts, hats, towels, sunglasses and various Winston Cup autographed merchandise.

Pit gates open at 2:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $5 for adults/senior citizens and $3 for children 6-12. Children five and under are free. Admission to the Stockyard is $25 per vehicle maximum of four people (each additional person is $5).
