NASCAR GOODY'S DASH SERIES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 12, 1997

CONSISTENCY PAYS FOR GOODY'S DASH DRIVERS

Following the completion of the Goody's Dash 150 at Bristol Motor Speedway, June 20, Goody's Pharmaceuticals, the title sponsor for the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series, will present checks totaling $15,000 to the ten, most consistent drivers in the Series. This is the highest amount the New Jersey based pharmaceuticals manufacturer has ever put on the line for the mid- season awards and the competition for a cut of that pie has become intense. The Goody's Mid- Season Consistency Awards are based on the laps completed statistics for each of the more than sixty competitors who have entered Dash Series races over the course of the 1997 season. The driver who has completed the most laps will receive a check for $5,000, while second and third place drivers will receive checks of $3,000 and $2,000, respectively. Another $5,000 will be allocated to the next seven drivers in the standings of that statistical category with checks ranging from $1,000 to $500. Jake Hobgood, of Winnsboro, SC currently leads the list with 972 laps completed out of the 975 laps possible, for a very impressive, 99.7% consistency rating. Long time Series veteran, Gary Moore of Horse Shoe, NC is ten laps behind Hobgood with 962 laps completed and a 98.7% rating. Another long time Series veteran, Newton, NC's Ned Combs is currently third, with 958 of the 975 laps completed. That computes out to a 98.3% rating. Four time winner in 1997, Mike Swaim Jr., is right there in the running for the big money. Swaim has completed 955 laps to this point for a 97.9% rating. Will Hobgood, the 1994 Series Champion, rounds out the top five in line for the awards with 918 laps completed and a 94.2% rating. Also currently in position for a cut of the fifteen grand, prize money, is 22 year Series veteran Larry Caudill, rookie Christian Elder, Daytona winner Brian Sockwell and two other rookie contenders, Ricky Bryant and Charles Powell III. Elder, Bryant and Powell must also keep their eyes on each other as they battle for Rookie of the Year supremacy. Just outside the top ten, but still within shot of a portion of the record setting award money, is Robert Huffman. Robert was the 1990 Series Champion and has won two races this year, but the Claremont, NC native has been experiencing the "checker or the wrecker" syndrome all year long. He'll be looking to take advantage of some of his recent good luck to move up into a payoff position. "Doc" Brewer, Scott Weaver, Jon Redman, Monk Gulledge and Pat Patterson are also going to need some assistance getting to the payoff window, but they too, are certainly not out of the running. -30-
