Return visit to Dells Motor Speedway on tap next for Re/Max Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring competitors.
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (, 2002)--"You fans are great," said Brian Hoppe after exiting his winning ride, May 27 at Dells (Wis) Motor Speedway. "And new promoter Bryan Severson is doing a great job with the place. Thanks for having us."
Severson and his Dells Motor Speedway fans were so impressed with the RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring competitors in their previous visit, that he asked the series back for an encore performance. The series will oblige, Saturday, July 13, for the running of the Welcome Back 200.
Pit gates on Saturday open at 7:00 a.m. (CT) with alternating practice sessions starting at 1:00 p.m. Qualifying is slated for 5:00 p.m. with the green flag flying over the field at 8:15. In addition to the RE/MAX Challenge Series, a full program of Dells Super Stocks and Pure Stocks is also scheduled.
The fastest 16 competitors will automatically qualify for the Welcome Back 200. Four additional starters will transfer to the main event via a 35-lap last chance qualifying race. Four final provisional starting spots will be awarded based on RE/MAX Challenge Series championship points.
The May 27 event marked a return of the series to the high-banked .33-mile Dells oval after a four year hiatus. In that event, Eddie Hoffman led the first 152 laps before Hoppe was able to muscle his way past. Hoppe led the remaining distance with Hoffman settling for runner-up honors. Rookie Josh Vadnais was the Bud Pole Fast Qualifier.
The event marks the half-way point of the 2002 RE/MAX Challenge Series championship season. Steve Carlson currently holds a 57 point advantage over Hoppe in the year-long standings and a 113 point bulge over Hoffman.
The RE/MAX Challenge Series is one of eight NASCAR Touring Series that blanket the United States. NASCAR Touring Series are extremely popular with fans and competitors. They can provide a competitor with an entire career, or they can provide valuable experience to competitors moving through the NASCAR ranks. Corporate sponsors make significant contributions to NASCAR Touring Series point funds. These sponsors include Anheuser-Busch, Featherlite, Goody's Headache Powders, Hills Bros Coffee, Raybestos Brakes, RE/MAX International, Inc., and RJ Reynolds brand, Winston.
